Rabiyatu Jalloh
Rabiyatu Jalloh serves as an English teacher at West Philadelphia High School. She earned her Master of Science in Education, Culture, and Society from the University of Pennsylvania, where her research explored the experiences of Black girls in educational spaces and examined how literacy interventions designed with Black girls in mind serve as resistance pathways. Her paper passed with distinction. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education and Public Policy and Bachelor of Arts in African American Studies from Penn State-University Park.
Jalloh has received multiple awards for her teaching, poetry, and leadership. Most recently, she was recognized as a 2025 International Literacy Association 30 Under 30 Award recipient for her work in literacy education and was awarded the 2023 NCTE Early Career Educator of Color Award.
A dedicated curriculum developer, Jalloh has designed multiple courses and professional development programs. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she leads the Equity Team at West Philadelphia High School, where she has designed and facilitated professional development for faculty, staff, and administrators on culturally responsive pedagogy, implicit bias, and creating safer learning environments for girls. Her work has fostered increased understanding, reflection, and courageous conversations.
As the inaugural faculty sponsor of the Student Equity Association, she has played a pivotal role in guiding students to advocate for equity and inclusion within the school community. Additionally, she serves as a Philadelphia affinity group facilitator, supporting the retention of educators of color in the city.
