June First Friday exhibit celebrates student work

The June First Friday pop up exhibit showcased student art from Al-Aqsa Islamic Academy, Southwark School and Rhoads Elementary School — all partner schools of ArtWell.

A steady stream of guests bore witness to the power of creativity and the role it plays in students’ lives. In under-resourced schools, children may not experience any creative outlets. Through art, music and poetry, ArtWell programs open young minds to new opportunities and awaken their dreams.

The June 2nd pop up exhibit also included poignant readings of original work from talented ArtWell teaching artists. And surely inspired by the captivating student art and poetry on hand, even guests (and now new friends of ArtWell) took to readings of the student poems and shared a handful of their own personal works.

Special thanks to Jessica Eldregde Studio for hosting ArtWell and to Old City District and Visit Philly for helping spread the word. The pop up exhibit was a First Friday top pick.
